Idaho Gov. Brad Little explains his decision to not allow funds to shift away from killing wolves to feed children during pandemic.

BOISE, IDAHO (Enviro Snowflake Brief)—Gov. Brad Little, right in sync with his Republican lead Legislature, announced today he will not allow taxpayer funds from the Wolf Depredation Control Board to be moved to support a desperately needed home delivery service for The School Breakfast and Lunch Programs of Idaho to keep needy children fed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As much as in-need children depend on school meals, my Idaho Republican colleagues and I are unified in knowing killing those Canadian wolves, who prey on our sporting wildlife, has been, is, and will always trump childcare and education needs,” stated Gov. Little with conviction.

Gov. Little, last week, hurriedly signed into law legislation sending $400,000 from the state’s general fund to the wolf killing state board in order lock down the money before the pandemic caused tactical relief funding challenges for his state government.

A reporter from The Idaho Statesman challenged Gov. Little. “Since the Wolf Depredation Control Board’s cost to kill each wolf is $9,000, can you share with us how many children could receive Grab-And-Go essential meal services at home if you did shift the wolf killing funds?”

Little gave an indignant, rankled reply to the reporter’s question. “How dare you compare families with kids sucking off the taxpayer system to the holy war my administration tirelessly wages to protect our welfare ranchers, conservation minded hunters, and our poor elk, who are terrorized by these killers.”

Democratic Rep. Muffy Davis  Rubel, expressed her exasperation shortly after Gov. Little’s announcement.

The School Breakfast and Lunch Programs of Idaho team understands the misplaced obsession Republicans have in this state killing wolves, but do most Idahoans really, really understand it when they vote?”

The Governor’s press secretary did announce one compromising offer to the Department of Education’s request for funding home delivery meals.

“We will offer one-month free home delivery of lunches to qualifying families during this pandemic in exchange for one wolf pelt.”
