CHEYENNE, Wyoming (Enviro Snowflake Brief)— Wyoming politicians expressed outrage with the mental strain they have endured trying to read the judge’s Yellowstone grizzly bear re-listing order document. The ruling issued by U.S. District Judge Dana Christensen last week has required state officials to cancel what was to be the first grizzly bear hunt in the Lower 48 States since 1991.

Sen. Liz Cheney said in a statement, “The 48-page ruling document by a Federal District Court Judge in Montana to re-list the grizzly ignores many federal and state officials 6th grade reading comprehension level, and it dares to use post graduate doctoral SCIENCE jargon to disregard the important work done by the state of Wyoming to establish a fun grizzly bear killing plan.”

Judge Christensen wrote that the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s efforts to analyze the obvious risk factors to the recovering Yellowstone grizzly were “simplistic at best and disingenuous at worst.” The judge added that the agency’s analysis of threats to the species was “arbitrary and capricious.”

Sen. John Barrasso, in a statement, echoed Sen. Cheney’s frustration, “Yet again, the courts are placing sciencebased recovery measures to make decisions on Wyoming wildlife management and then expecting politicians like Liz, Gov. Mead, and myself to be able to read their ruling. Outrageous!”

Wyoming Game and Fish Department Director Scott Talbott called the ruling “unfortunate” and “impossible to read by most of us supporting the hunt.”

Gov. Mead summed up best how Wyoming officials are feeling about Judge Christensen’s 48-page document, “What does ‘capricious’ mean anyway- who talks like that! Sec. Zinke said President Trump would never use that language.”
