DENVER, Colorado (Enviro Snowflake Brief)—WYGF Commission’s unrelenting loyalty to Wyoming ranchers and hunters earned them the midyear 2018 Rotten White Pine Award (RWP) for inexplicable state wildlife management.

WYGF Chief Game Warden Brian Nesvik, said by phone Monday, “the Commission was ecstatic after receiving word of the state commission’s win.”

“Our seven commissioners moved unanimously with conviction from Day 1 to approve a grizzly hunt after Wyoming regained management of the resource thanks to Secretary Zinke delisting the Yellowstone grizzly. We had to overcome most of the scientific community denouncing the hunt, as well as 90% negative public comments, but we stayed the course,” according to Nesvik.

Dan Wenk, the Chairman of the Rotten White Pine Award selection committee, will present the trophy at a ceremony on September 1st in Denver.

“WYGF’s aggressive wolf and grizzly hunting policies this year will leave an indelible mark on the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem earning the Commission the RWP Award,” says Mr. Wenk.

Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead gloated about the announcement to the Jackson Hole Daily, “WYGF was determined to win the first Rotten White Pine Award, and we plan to keep it in Wyoming for years. Sorry Idaho and Wisconsin, try to keep up!”
