SEATTLE, Washington (Enviro Snowflake Brief)— Mitch Friedman, Executive Director of Conservation Northwest, a Washington based conservation nonprofit that is at odds with most of the wolf advocacy community, has a new brainchild fundraiser that is consistent with his organization’s values and alliances today in eastern Washington.
CNW will hold their inaugural Helicopter Rodeo this fall, which will entertain local ranchers in Ferry County by giving donors a 30-minute hunting ride in a Wildlife Services helicopter over Colville National Forest- armed with a government issued 12-gauge shotgun searching for endangered wolves.
Friedman, in a phone interview said, “I firmly believe the only way to save wolves is to let ranchers have some fun killing them. I can tell you how much CNW donations have increased in Ferry County with our counter intuitive strategy to save wolves.”
Mitch explained, “The Helicopter Rodeo will have plenty of out of state wolf advocacy groups whining, but they don’t live here. My organization is local. I’m convinced the ranchers will have a great time even though many will not even get a shot off. It deeply hurts me to see wolves killed, but it’s all about collaboration to co-exist, and honestly, some of these ranchers are our biggest donors today.”
Ron Eslick, 71, the cattleman suspected last week of illegally shooting and injuring the Togo Wolf Pack’s alpha male while claiming self-defense, was thrilled with CNW’s upcoming event.
Eslick told the Capital Press, “I already bought four tickets, and we all know now I’m not such a great shot when those varmints are running away from me.” (NOT REAL NEWS)
