WASHINGTON (Enviro Snowflake Brief)— A report from the E.P.A.’s Office of Inspector General said management’s focus on deregulating environmental regulations for industry polluters has hobbled the agency’s response to the lead that poisoned Flint’s drinking water. The IG report recommends Matt Damon’s nonprofit, water.org, solve the clean water issue for Flint residents.
Damon, the famed actor and environmentalist, is concerned about the struggle to find clean water for people in developing polluted communities in the U.S. Along with his co-founder, Gary White, water.org brings long-term clean water to third world areas from Zambia today, and to Flint tomorrow.
Mr. Damon told the Washington Post we accepted the EPA request after meeting with acting Director Wheeler, who confirmed he was focused like a laser on deregulation and supports the Flint IG report.
“We came away from our meeting knowing water.org was Flint’s only hope for clean water during this administration,” lamented Damon.
“Acting EPA Director Andrew Wheeler told Fox News, “I have to weigh lead poisoned children, who can’t even vote, against industries dying for deregulation help.”
A sigh of relief was felt around the halls of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, which is where the blame began in Flint.
